I made a trip to Huánuco to deliver the first Radio Programs Production Workstation.  The equipment consists of a computer and a microphone.  The workstation will be used by JAWCA to record radio programs in the five variations of Quechua represented in Huánuco.  In December, I will deliver the second workstation - a clone of this one.

The computer is designed to record audio programs that are Scripture-based.  These can be dramas or radio programs.  Since it will be used by a number of people, is formatted in such a way that it protects itself from viruses and unnecessary programs. Once the user finishes working on their program and shuts down the computer, the system restores itself and erases all changes made to the operating system.  This is so that the machine does not slow down over time or become laden with viruses.

I spent two days explaining the system to Hilmar Durán, who is in charge of the audiovisual area of JAWCA.  We ran though a number of scenarios in order to make sure he understood the concepts.  We also talked a lot about the regulations and requirements that needed to be in place for JAWCA to offer this to people who want to record audio programs.

The funds for this equipment was donated over a year ago, but they were not spent until recently, due to a number of factors.  The greatest factor that delayed moving forward was that Hilmar was still involved in the translation and checking of the Panao Quechua New Testament.  I did not want to draw Hilmar’s attention away from his primary task of Bible translation.  He recently finished and is now focusing on his new role as audiovisual coordinator for JAWCA.

Another motive for the delay was to see how the people I trained in Huánuco in 2008 would apply the training they had been given.  I don’t like to purchase a lot of equipment for anyone until I see that they are applying their training.  All of those I worked with have been involved in producing audiovisual materials, and are ready for more advanced equipment.  They have shown themselves to be good stewards of what they already have.  This was highlighted recently, when a team from Moody Radio came to visit Huánuco and were very impressed with how JAWCA was reaching their people with the Scriptures using radio and audio dramas.

In December I will make another visit to JAWCA and deliver the second Radio Programs Production Workstation and the Audiovisual Production Workstation (AWP).  The AWP will allow JAWCA to move forward with their vision to produce more advanced audio productions, like the recording of musical groups.  It will also allow them to dub Scripture videos, produce audio Scripture recordings, and produce their own Scripture promotion materials in audio and video.

I am also involving ILMAV in as much of the process as possible, since ILMAV will be continuing to encourage and support the audiovisual efforts of JAWCA in the future.  ILMAV will be giving Hilmar more advanced training in audio and video in the next several years.  Hilmar recently worked with some of ILMAV’s staff during the recording of the Panao Quechua New Testament with Hosanna Ministries.  They will be collaborating on a number of projects in the future.
